Turkiye in Colour

This album documents my recent travels to Türkiye. It aims to show different historic sights and frames from daily life in Türkiye from my lens. It is divided into sub-sections based on location.

Istanbul - Kadıköy

Our travels start in Kadıköy. It is a suburb located at south-western part of the Anatolian side. Of course Greater Kadıköy Region extends all the way to the east but we’re talking about oldtown Kadıköy which is roughly located between Rıhtım at West, Moda at South, Yeldeğirmeni at North and Söğütlüçeşme at East.

Kadıköy has a very special place in my heart because it is the suburb I spent my early teenage years. First kiss, first fight, first time ditching school. It is the place of many firsts for me and many other teenagers growing up in Istanbul.

Istanbul - galata & Eminonu

Now let’s cross the bosphorus to the European shore. Galata and Eminonu are two sides of the Golden Horn estuary. Historically they represented two pillars of the Ottoman Istanbul, muslim suburbs in Eminonu, and non-muslim (predominantly Greek Orthodox, Armenian and Jewish) in Galata. Of course such division of population became a thing of the past through secularisation movements brought by the Republic. However it is still possible to observe the aesthetic, architecture and perhaps a hint of the lifestyles of these cultures that once shared a great city.

Ankara - Ulus

Before we continue our journey in the suburbs of oldtown Istanbul, let’s mix things up a little and go to Ankara, the capital. Below you’ll find some frames from Ulus, the once centre of Oldtown Ankara. Ulus is home to many gems of the city like the Ankara Castle and many museums and other sights.

Istanbul - sultanahmet

Now we’re back in Istanbul, let’s visit the oldest part of the town, Sultanahmet. Sultanahmet is home to Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern and many other old relics of the city.

Istanbul - fatih

Fatih is another historical suburb of Istanbul. However inner suburbs of Fatih is not as touristic and very well known as the others shown in this album. And it still is home to a large native population. Fatih is, like many others shown, is a suburb of many cultures.

Miscellaneous

Finally, below are some photos taken casually during my travels. Some of my favourites are among these.
