ANZAC Day

Every year ANZAC Day is observed at the 25th of April. It commemorates all Australian and New Zealanders "who served and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.” However the main conflict in question is WW1’s Gallipoli Campaign as ANZAC was the name given to soldiers recruited from Australia and New Zealand (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) mainly for the Gallipoli and other Western fronts. Every year all major Australian and New Zealander cities hold grand events to participate in ANZAC Day, biggest of which being the Sydney ANZAC Day parade.

It’s an interesting experience to watch the ANZAC Day parade as a Turkishman. It reminds one the true horror and reality of war beyond glory and passion. It reminds one what both nations learned the hard way, ANZACs during the battle and Turks during the course of the war, that empires were a thing of the past. That dying in distant lands or in wars started by a few ambitious officers or strong men was history. It was time for both nation’s people to start deciding their own faith. It’s a lesson that’s still relevant today in many parts of the world.

Below you’ll find ANZAC Day 2024 through my lens. Hope you can enjoy.
